What's In a Name?
"Bedrock's" was acquired in April 2000 by the Bedard family. The history behind the name of "Bedrock" has nothing to do with the ole cartoon. In 1999, the Bedard family lost a wonderful father, husband, and grandpa to Lung Cancer. Don Bedard loved to cook. Before his death, he retired from the former International Paper Company Paper Mill and his favorite pasttimes were to cook, fish, hunt, and go down south. He also served in the United States Navy. Many at his work referred to him with the nickname, "Bedrock," and his first commerical fishing boat was named the "Bedrock." According to Webster's Dictionary,
"Bedrock" also means a solid underlying rock.
That was Don, solid to a core.
If Don were alive today, he'd be in the kitchen here at Bedrock's making the soup of the day or his famous, "Tortillas and Chili." He was the Camp Cook for the Summit Pines Hunting Group for decades treating his hunting buddies to crab stuffed mushrooms, pork chops, steaks...you name it. Those hunting partners ate like kings for a week.
Forget the deer hunting, let's eat!
Don also believed in family, and you didn't have to be related to be part of the family. All he wanted a few days before his passing, was for the "Family" to be together in a celebration of life, freedom and happiness.
We at Bedrock's are carrying on the fine traditions of his, cooking fine food for our "Family." Working side by side with our "Family. Striving to be a solid underlying rock of service, food and community service.
In April 2008, we lost to heaven the "Matriarch" of Bedrock's. Don's wife, our mother, our grandmother and lover of Clam Chowder and Milkshakes- Judy. She was also another underlying rock of our "Family." We will miss them both, but we know each evening when the sun sets so beautifully on the Coast, that their memories will never wash away.
God Speed Don and Judy-
we will try to make you proud!
